Selection guide for liquid heater
Points to note before designing the liquid heater
Before designing the liquid heater, we have to figure out a few questions:
1) What is the heating liquid? For example, water, oil or corrosive liquid, etc.;
2) The amount of pressure that the liquid heater needs to withstand after being installed in the equipment;
3) Installation method: horizontal installation or vertical installation;
4) The size of installation space;
5) The material of the installation container;
Selection guide for the liquid heater-material selection
The selection of the jacket material of the liquid heater is mainly determined according to the heating liquid. Generally, the following materials can be selected:
1) The situation of heating water
Material | Apply to |
Stainless steel 304 | Non-corrosive, softened water |
Stainless steel 316L | Heating drinking water |
Stainless steel 304+ anti-scaling coating | When the water quality is relatively hard, our company's processes for anti-scaling coating mainly include: liquid coating and electrostatic powder coating |
Stainless steel 310S/Incoloy | high-end product, anti-scaling, and anti-corrosion |
2) Condition of heating oil
Material | Apply to |
Carbon steel | General heat transfer oil, lubricating oil, etc. |
Stainless steel 304 | General heat transfer oil, lubricating oil, etc. |
Stainless steel 304+ anti-scaling coating | General oil products are not very good heat transfer oil, lubricating oil, etc |
3) When heating corrosive liquids
The corrosive article is not ready yet, so I will link it next time. Please wait carefully. Thank you
Selection guide for liquid heater-selection of heating tube style
Generally, the style of the liquid heater is selected according to the power. Common styles:
※Industrial Tubular HeatersOr Kettle Heating Element Material(according to customer requirements)
※With adjustable temperature control Thermostatic Heating Element
Selection guide for liquid heater-power design
Without considering the heat loss, it can be calculated by the formula;
The calculation formula is: required power (kw) = weight of water (kg) * temperature difference * specific heat capacity of water {kJ/(kg·℃)}/time (seconds)
for example:
For example, if the initial temperature is 10°C, what is the electric heating tube power required to heat 500kg of water to 90°C in 60mins (3600s)?
Required power (kw) = weight of water (kg) * temperature difference * specific heat capacity of water {kJ/(kg·℃)}/time (sec)
Substitute the formula to calculate the total power=500*(90-10)*4.17/3600=46.33kw
Considering the heat loss, the general design power is larger than the power calculated by the formula.
Selection guide for liquid heater-design of heating tube surface load
The core concept: The higher the surface load, the worse the life of the electric heating tube; therefore, a reasonable surface load design is the most important. [In order to facilitate understanding, we simplified the surface load to the power per meter. 】
Heating medium | Suggested power per meter [Note①] |
Closed oil tank heating oil Y1 | 1KW/m |
Flowing or circulating oil Y2 | 2KW/m |
Tap water S1 | 2-3KW/m |
Pure water S2 | 3-4KW/m |
Note ①: Every meter here refers to the length of the heating zone of the heating tube. The recommended power per meter is not fixed.
1. Do not use unstable containers. Before installing the electric heating tube, make sure that the container is placed smoothly, and then install and fix it. Because the unstable container is easy to overturn and dump liquid, causing the electric heating tube to burn dry, due to the danger of fire, electric shock, etc.;
2. Do not use the electric heating tube in a heating container that is short of oil or contaminated. Put the electric heating tube in oil with a lot of impurities to heat, which will easily make the surface carbon and the heat generated by itself cannot be timely The electric heating tube is damaged due to the emission of the electric heating tube (if the scaling is serious, the heating tube can be treated with a coating), and the heating liquid must not be lower than the normal liquid level standard, otherwise the heating tube may be damaged and a fire Waiting for danger
3. When the electric heating tube is heating oil, the space of the installation place must be guaranteed. If the space is limited, the limited amount of oil will cause the heat of the heating tube to be unable to dissipate in time and burn out.
